There are some organic farmers out there that are doing it just to make a buck and are trying to change the rules in their favor, however I believe it is the minority. Organic is still better then conventional. Crazy how you ask this question because I just had the pleasure to talk to Iver Marjerison about this same topic, which will be coming out as an episode soon, so look out for it.

To be labeled organic you do have to go through some steps, it is no way conventional. There is a lot of money in the label organic now. What usually happens once a lot of money gets involved is the people in that industry get together with the Washington people and change or make new laws in favor of them, unfortunately. I always return to the same, buy local as much as you can, eat seasonal as much as you can and grow as much as you can. When you have to buy at a supermarket get the best product possible and organic is still a better product then conventional. We need to look at food as we look at most things of importance that we buy. We need to look at the quality more then the price.

Thanks for the questions and keep them coming!

I really enjoyed this episode! However after listening to this podcast I am concern about the fact that I am spending extra money in foods which are labeled organic. Are they really organic? Is it worth it to spend money on them? Should I just eat what I grow and preserved in the summer and then buy regular inexpensive food in the supermarket?
